Looking for an elegant dip that tastes great and is easy to put together? It is party time with this salmon dip. It will truly save the day. And goes well with baked crackers, celery sticks, and mini bagel crisps.

I am going, to be honest, here, you can’t buy store-bought dip that tastes this good. This dip is dressed to impress. If you have ever purchased in-store salmon dip, you know that the salmon chunks are small, and the base is more creamy.

There is something to be said for a salmon-based dip that must be consumed in ten days because real salmon must be enjoyed within three days max. Homemade is the real deal. And 100% better in flavor.

It is perfect to serve at parties. People just go nuts over it. You can serve it cold or warm, depending on your preference. We enjoy it both ways. We may want also to try these Fresh Salmon Burgers.

Using Smoked Salmon

There are a couple of preparation methods, but in general, smoked salmon is made by curing and smoking the fish. (Fun fact: lox is cured, but not smoked). It is typically served cold, often with cream cheese and dill, and is a mainstay on many brunch menus.

Smoked salmon is ‘cured’ by the smoking so strictly speaking it is neither cooked nor raw

Ingredients Needed – What you will need to make salmon dip

  • 8 oz of fresh Alaskan Salmon or pre-smoked salmon.
  • 8 oz of Cream Cheese
  • 1 Cup of Plain Greek Yogurt
  • 2 Tablespoons of Lemon Juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon of Ground Pepper
  •  1 Tablespoon of Dill

Remove the skin and shred the salmon. Take the smoked salmon, shred it, and place it aside.

Next, mix all remaining ingredients into a food processor and blend or pulse depending on the desired creaminess of the dip. For a creamy consistency, blend the ingredients. For a chunky consistency, pulse the ingredients.

Then add salmon and creamed mixture to a mixing bowl and fold in until combined completely. Serve chilled with vegetable cruditรฉ, gourmet crackers, and or baguette chips.

Side Note: This dip does taste better after resting in the fridge for 24 hours before serving. You can also substitute cream cheese with plain yogurt.

How long does the smoked salmon dip last in the fridge?

Stored in the refrigerator, the salmon dip will keep for up to five days. If serving for a party, refrigerate the room temperature spread after two hours.

Can you freeze cream cheese base dips?

The answer is yes, you can freeze anything. However, the texture will change considerably. It will be more crumbly and less creamy once thawed. While the taste will be the same, it won’t spread in the same way.

What goes well with salmon dip?

Savory salmon cream cheese tastes delicious on top of crackers, bagels, and toast. But you can make a delicious meal by adding a few extra toppings. Switch things up with different tastes by customizing your fixings.
