How to Make This Orange Glazed Fried Chicken

To achieve the perfect golden crunch without excessive oil, there are a few key steps you’ll want to follow.

By ensuring your chicken is properly seasoned and using the right cooking technique, you’ll be well on your way to creating a crispy and delicious dish.

Pan Fry Method

STEP ONE: First and foremost, clean the chicken and pat dry with a paper towel. Removing all excess water. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.

STEP TWO: Combine all seasonings. Mix well using a whisk.

STEP THREE: Add 1 tbsp of seasoning mix to a bowl with the flour and cornstarch.

STEP FOUR: Next, it’s important to properly season your chicken. This not only adds flavor but also helps to create a crispy outer layer. Before cooking, generously season your chicken with the remainder of the seasoning.

This will infuse the chicken with a burst of flavor that will complement the citrusy notes of the orange glaze.

STEP FIVE: Next, toss the seasoned chicken into your flour mixtures. At this point, your oil should be very hot. You can test this by sprinkling a little flour into the pan, when it sizzles, the oil is ready

STEP SIX: Now you are ready to add chicken to the oil and cook until golden on both sides. Cook on each side for four to five minutes.

The thickness of your pieces can change the cooking time. Use a fork to poke the meat down to the bone. When a clear juice flows out, the chicken is cooked through. Remove from skillet and let drain on paper towels.

How to Air Fry Chicken

STEP ONE: To ensure your chicken achieves the perfect golden-brown color. Preheat your air fryer to 370 degrees before adding the chicken.

STEP TWO: Repeat steps one through four, as above, to prepare the chicken.

STEP THREE: Place chicken in the air fryer and spray with olive oil cooking spray. Then cook for eight minutes, then turn the chicken over. Spray the other side with olive oil spray again and cook for another eight minutes or until the chicken is cooked.

Time to Create the Orange Chicken Glaze

One key element to consider when creating your glaze is the balance of sweetness and acidity. The orange glaze should have a tangy, citrusy flavor that complements the crispy chicken perfectly.

STEP ONE: In a saucepan on medium heat, melt butter.

STEP TWO: Next, add in garlic and saute for two minutes. Then add in the orange juice, honey, and orange zest.

STEP THREE: Stir the sauce until it thickens, roughly between five and seven minutes. Add a pinch of salt and pepper and then taste to make sure your flavors are balanced.

STEP FOUR: Start with 2 tbsp honey and if you need to make the sauce sweeter to balance out the garlic add the 3rd tbsp of honey.

STEP FIVE: Once thick, using a brush or spoon, generously coat each piece of chicken with the luscious orange glaze. Be sure to cover the entire surface, allowing the glaze to seep into every nook and cranny, ensuring each bite is bursting with flavor.

And there you have it โ€“ your orange glaze fried chicken is now ready to be served to your eagerly waiting guests or family.
