Old Fashioned Peanut Butter Bread Recipe – No Yeast
Prep Time: 10 Minutes Cook Time: 1 Hour Total Time: 1 Hour, 10 Minutes Servings: 1 Loaf |
Peanut butter bread is a staple item in our house. With its moist, banana bread-like texture, and it’s packed with nutty peanut butter flavor. No kneading is needed with this flavorful bread. It fills tummies all day long. It is versatile enough to eat for breakfast or have as a snack. Slicing this bread to serve with a little butter on top or slathered in your favorite jam – either way is equally delicious.
My pre-teens will eat their way through this bread in just a matter of days. I am lucky if I can get a few slices. This is why I have to make this bread nearly weekly. It is no wonder it doesn’t last long. This bread is so peanut-buttery-rich and scrumptious.
And the aroma of baking bread is irresistible to anyone. This bread is great to share with other friends and family. If you are making a loaf for yourself, why not double the recipe and share a loaf with a friend?
This bread doesn’t require yeast and is simply made with pantry staples. Peanut butter replaces the need for butter and the rest of the ingredient list is simple: flour, rolled oats, sugar, baking powder, salt, etc. And if you are a BIG Fan of peanut butter, you should also check out this Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake it will not let you down.
Simple Ingredients Needed
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup of milk
Optional side note: If you want to add more sweetness, you can opt to add a cup of chocolate chips.
How to Make Peanut Butter Bread
The steps to making this bread are quite simple. First, you will need to position a rack in the center of the oven. Then preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Then start by lightly greasing a 9×11 bread loaf pan and set it aside.
Now, In a medium bowl, whisk flour, rolled oats, baking powder, and salt to combine. This just takes a few minutes. Whisking is the easiest way to combine these ingredients. Then in a large mixing bowl, cream together peanut butter and sugar. Beat in eggs.
Adding one egg at a time. (See additional tips under kitchen tips for more suggestions on add-ins) Then alternating; add in flour mixture and then milk until well combined. Your peanut butter bread batter will be nice smooth and on the thick side. Pour the batter into a greased bread pan and bake for one hour.
Please note: After trial and error, I have started checking the bread at 45 minutes for doneness. If overcooked, this bread does dry out fast. If the stick comes out clean, take your bread out of the oven.
I know you will want to cut into the bread right away, but please hold off. It will fall apart if you do. Allow to cool in pans for at least 10 minutes. Turn out on wire racks and cool completely. Serve when cooled to room temperature. We love this bread with a bit of butter. Enjoy!
Storage & Kitchen Tips
- This bread can be made up 3 days ahead of time before serving. But must be eaten that day. I have also placed it in the refrigerator for up to a week.
- Wrap in aluminum foil and store at room temperature or in an airtight container in the fridge.
- To make this bread gluten-free replace all-purpose flour with your favorite cup-to-cup gluten-free flour.
- Dairy-free option- substitute milk with oat milk. (We have made this bread gluten-free & dairy-free. You would never know the difference).
- If you normally keep your peanut butter in the fridge, you will want to mix your peanut butter and milk first. This way, it is creamy and smooth. I know this means pulling out a second bowl; otherwise, you may find mixing in the peanut butter hard.
- You can create a sweet dessert bread, by adding 1 cup of chocolate semi-sweet morsels.
- Make this bread banana flavor – Mash up one very ripe banana and combine it with the batter. One banana we have found does not change the texture or ratio one bit. And makes the bread extra yummy.
