Breakfast Nutella Swirl Bread with Bananas Recipe
Prep Time: 10 Minutes Cook Time: 1 Hour Total Time: 1 Hour, 10 Minutes Servings: 1 Loaf |
Nothing smells better than the smell of Homemade Nutella Swirl Banana Bread baking in the oven. We love making this bread for breakfast. The kids even enjoy eating it as an after-dinner snack.
So if you have some bananas that are well past their eating prime, this is a great recipe for you to try. While regular old banana bread is delicious on its own, you can turn it up a notch by swirling in some of your favorite Nutella.
I know you will enjoy it because it is very easy to make. The hardest part is simply waiting for it to bake in the oven. Because this recipe doesn’t call for yeast, the prep time is knocked down to only a few minutes of your time.
Slicing this bread to serve with a little butter on top or slathered in your favorite jam – either way is equally delicious. My pre-teens will eat their way through this bread in just a matter of days. I am lucky if I can get a few slices. So my advice, be the one to first cut into the bread.
Let’s Get Started
Ingredients needed Nutella Swirl Bread
- 2 sticks of melted butter
- 1 cup of sugar
- 2 eggs – room temp
- 2 cups of flour
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda
- 4 over-ripened bananas
- 3/4 cup of Nutella
Bananas. They are one of the shining stars in this recipe. It is important to make sure you have very ripe bananas. You know, the ones with the brown speckles. Over-ripped bananas give this recipe the sweetness it needs. Otherwise, we would need to add in more granulated sugar. Natural sugars are much better for you.
Nutella. This Italian hazelnut spread brings a nutty chocolate flavor to this bread. I have tried both name brands and the Aldi version and I can say both come out delish.
Tips for Making This Nutella Banana Bread
Bananas – I already mentioned this, but very ripe bananas make a huge difference in the sweetness of this bread.
Eggs – Room temp eggs ensure that all ingredients blend together well. When cold from the fridge, the protein is “tighter” and doesn’t often blend into the batter with ease.
Microwave Your Nutella – when you microwave the Nutella just for 20 seconds or so, it makes it easier to blend into the batter. Don’t microwave any longer than you need to. Have you seen baked Nutella? Well, this is what you will get.
Gluten-Free Option – To make this bread gluten-free replace all-purpose flour with your favorite cup-to-cup gluten-free flour.
Other Substitutions – Instead of using Nutella, you can substitute it for peanut butter, using the same measurements.
How To Store Your Freshly Baked Bread
This bread can be made up 3 days ahead of time before serving. But must be eaten that day. I have also placed it in the refrigerator for up to a week.
Wrap in aluminum foil and store at room temperature or in an airtight container in the fridge.
Making Nutella Swirl Banana Bread
The steps to making this bread are quite simple. First, you will need to position a rack in the center of the oven. Then preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare your bread pan by greasing or spraying it with baking spray.
Now, in a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, eggs, and sugar. Once mixed well, fold in the flour and baking soda until the batter is smooth.
In the same bowl, fold in the mushy bananas. They should be relatively easy to mix in.
Add 1/2 of the batter to a greased bread pan. Gently shake the pan to settle the batter and remove any trapped air bubbles.
Microwave 1/2 cup Nutella on high for 20 seconds in a small separate bowl. Then warm Nutella across the batter and swirl it in. Add remaining batter on top.
Spread the remaining Nutella across the top of the batter. Bake in the oven at 350° for 60 minutes. Using a toothpick, poke the loaf in the center to make sure the loaf is cooked throughout. Once done, let the bread rest to cool and enjoy.
