Apple Raisin Smothered Pork Chops
Pork and apples are just made for each other. Ahhhh…… Comfort food. This Easy Apple Raisin Smothered Pork Chops recipe is a savory combination of tender sage-seasoned pork chops, golden raisins, and apples – topped with a creamy flavored sauce.
This is a recipe I developed after being placed on a low-iodine diet for radioactive treatment for thyroid cancer. The diet is awful, to say the least, but I found some workaround ways that made it palatable.
This is one of those recipes that helped me endure a highly restricted diet. In fact, even after my treatment (which I went through twice – BLAH) this recipe still greets our dinner table.
Sure it brings back some memories, but it remains one of my favorite and easy ways to make pork chops. In a word: Yum. And that pretty much sums it up.
Your idea about porks chops
Pork chops that are thinly sliced are not considered dry cuts of meat. A good pork chop is as delicious and juicy. Finding the right cut does make the difference. I do perfect a center-cut boneless chop.
Our family purchases a whole pork tenderloin and we slice our own pork chops. We do this because oftentimes purchasing this large amount of meat is cheaper. It is all about the savings. I can’t help being frugal-minded.
If you are buying pre-sliced chops, make sure that they are 1 to 1 1/2 inches thick. If you don’t see any in at your local grocery store, you can often ask. This way, you know for sure you are getting it cut the way you want.
Here is another great recipe to try – Crock Pot Smothered Pork Chops.

How to Make Apple Raisin Smothered Pork Chops
Please note that a printable list of ingredients and recipe can be found below.
First, you will need to pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees. Your chops start in on the stovetop first and will cook to perfection in the oven.
Once you are ready, then you want to season pork chops with salt, pepper, and sage. Then, brown both sides of the chops in a skillet with canola oil. Cooking just enough to brown, a few minutes on each side.
Once browned, remove from the skillet and set aside. Then add to all the delicious renderings flour, water, vinegar, and raisins. You will be making a “sauce” to smother your pork chops.
You will want to cook the raisin sauce mixture until it thickens. It Should be noted: If you taste this mixture during the cooking process, it will not taste all that great. I have to be honest.
Please trust me when I say the flavors of this dish will all come together. Believe me, I wouldn’t stir you wrong.
Next, arrange the chops in a casserole dish.
Top with apples (peeled). Sprinkle with brown sugar and top with thickened raisin mixture. Lastly, bake covered for 1 hour at 350 degrees.
And there you have it. Absolutely delicious Apple Raisin Smothered Pork Chops. OH, SO GOOD!!!
Now listen, try to be civilized. The temptation to eat everyone else’s pork chops might be tempting, but you’re better than that. So just keep calm and make more pork chops.
