I do love a traditional lasagna, but honestly, it is a lot of work. And this mama doesn’t have the time to create a beautifully layered meal. Time-consuming dinners are not in my vocabulary. Whether youโ€™re making this on a busy weeknight or part of a lovely Sunday dinner, you will love this recipe.

Even though this recipe doesn’t call for extra veggies with kids, I try to hide them as much as possible. Veggies I have added in that have gone unnoticed – chopped button mushrooms, chopped spinach, shredded zucchini or summer squash, grated carrot, and small chopped-up broccoli florets.

Plus, don’t forget to pair this meal with these Simple Garlic Knots. And the next time you are looking for another one pan meal, be sure to check out the Chicken Cobbler Casserole Recipe.

Why You Will Love This One Skillet Lasagna Meal

Time-Saving: It simplifies the traditional lasagna-making process by combining everything in one skillet, significantly reducing prep and cooking time.

Easy Cleanup: With only one pan to wash, you’ll spend less time scrubbing dishes and more time enjoying your delicious meal.

Delicious Flavor: The ingredients meld beautifully together, creating rich, layered flavors that rival classic lasagna.

Ingredients Needed

Please note, you will find a printable recipe card below for your convenience.

  • Italian sausage – If you can find ground Italian sausage, this is the way to go. Otherwise, you will have to buy whole sausage and cut the casing off.
  • Seasonings – This includes salt and pepper to your taste and Italian seasoning.
  • Pasta sauce – A shortcut is to purchase your favorite brand’s sauce instead of making it homemade. But if you already have some homemade sauce ready, use it!
  • Rotini noodles – Our favorite, because of the coverage. Rotini noodles have lots of crevices to pick up ingredients. It makes every bite delicious.
  • Ricotta cheese – You can substitute Cottage Cheese for the Ricotta Cheese. Some people donโ€™t like the flavor or texture of ricotta cheese in lasagna (or this lasagna skillet). So, cottage cheese is a great alternative. Simply substitute the cheese 1:1.
  • Mozzarella and Parmesan cheese – Just like a regular lasagna. We need the cheese.
  • Fresh parsley This is an optional ingredient. I like to use it as a garnish.

How to Make This Skillet Lasagna

This recipe makes a lot of food- at least 6 servings- so make sure to use a large cast-iron skillet
