I find it so annoying when a recipe calls for an ingredient you don’t have on hand. Not only is it quick—you can whip up a batch in about 30 seconds. Homemade curry powder is such a cinch to throw together.

Homemade Seasonings just taste better than store-bought versions. Plus YOU control the ingredients  No preservatives and ingredients you can’t pronounce. I like to make ours in a larger batch since we use it so frequently.

This is the recipe mix I came up with. I hope you enjoy it as much as my family does. Now quick mention – one of our family’s favorite recipes is this Peach Yogurt Curry Marinated Pork Chops.

Why You Will Love This Curry Spice

You Can Customize it – You to customize the flavors to suit your palate perfectly. By using fresh, quality ingredients, you can create a robust blend that outshines store-bought versions.

Cost Effective – making your spice mix is not only cost-effective but also healthier.

Ingredients Needed

Please note that a full list of ingredients and a printable version of this recipe is available below.

  • Coriander powder – This leafy herb (cilantro) is refreshingly sweet. Coriander is made from the seeds of this plant.
  • Cumin powder – A bold seasoning that bolsters savory dishes with its hearty, lemony taste.
  • Turmeric powder – This is what gives this blend its iconic yellow color. It’s a warm spice with bitter undertones. I would not recommend substituting this ingredient — it’s a staple of Indian cuisine and should be present in any DIY curry powder recipe.
  • Cayenne – This ground pepper gives a fiery color and flavor, giving off a “fresh” heat.
  • Smoked Sweet Paprika – This is a type of paprika that is created by drying and grinding sweet red peppers over an oak fire, resulting in a sweet, smoky flavor. It’s
  • Ground ginger – Ginger is an extremely common ingredient in Indian dishes, both sweet and savory. Its distinctly spicy and sweet flavor is difficult to replicate, and so it should not be swapped out.
  • Chili powder – Give a delightful smoking flavor to the curry.

Many of the following ingredients can be swapped out for more or less heat, tanginess, or sweetness. Alter per your preferences, and let me know what combination you like best!

Then Store. A batch of homemade curry seasoning should last you about a year! This is fantastic news. A tightly sealed mason jar is a great way to store your homemade taco seasoning, or a Ziploc bag with the excess air pushed out works well, too.

Storage Tip: It’s best to store spices in a cupboard or pantry, not on the countertop or by your stove. Make sure they are clean and completely dry. Please also check out How to Store Spices and Keep Spices Fresh.

Pro Tip: It can be easy to forget which spice you have added to your bowl.

To make it easier, remove all the caps from your spices and place them back on as you use them. This way, you will know which you have used and which ones you still need to add to your spice mix.

I did add a small amount of salt and garlic powder…all the spices I used were organic..as shop bought curry powder gives me headaches, I was desperate to make my own. Yours was the one I chose, and I’m very pleased…It will probably last a month before I have to make more. Thankyou!
