Maybe you have been there, standing in that long line at Starbucks, waiting to order your coffee and double-chunk brownie, and wished you could find a recipe to make the brownies at home. Well, my friend, you just did!

No more standing in line. The best part is the savings. Instead of spending $3 for one single brownie, you can make 8 of them for a fraction of that cost. Now isn’t that sweet? If you are a chocolate lover or brownie fan at all, then you will fall head over heels in love with these brownies.

The original Starbucks chunk brownies contain chunks of chocolate. These are what make the brownies. I like to use bakers’ chocolate chopped into chunks, but if you donโ€™t have these, chocolate chips will work just as well.

Why You Will Love This Starbucks Copycat Brownies Recipe

Budget-Friendly: Save money by making delicious brownies at home instead of buying them from Starbucks.

Moist and Chewy Texture: Enjoy that satisfying fudgy texture that will keep you coming back for more.

Rich, Decadent Flavor: Experience the same indulgent taste as your favorite Starbucks brownies, right at home.

Ingredients Needed

Please note that a full list of ingredients and a printable version of this recipe is available below.

  • Unsalted butter – I havenโ€™t been able to make perfectly fudgy, chewy brownies with vegetable oil, which is why I always use melted butter. As such, I donโ€™t recommend substituting oil for the butter in this recipe.
  • Eggs – Let these sit on the counter for at least 30 minutes before starting this recipe โ€” but an hour is better!
  • Vanilla extract & salt – Are needed for adding depth of flavor.
  • All-purpose flour – You don’t need any special flour to make these. Can you use cake flour? I would not suggest it. It will change the texture of your brownies from dense and fudgy to light and airy.
  • Cocoa powder – If your cocoa powder is lumpy, you may want to sift it before adding it to the brownie batter. You donโ€™t want lumps in your chocolate brownies!ย
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips, chunks, or chopped bakers’ chocolate – ย if you donโ€™t have chocolate chunks on hand, youโ€™re welcome to use chocolate chips instead. Stick with semi-sweet, though, so these brownies arenโ€™t too sweet.

How to Make These Chocolate Brownies

STEP ONE: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly spray an 8ร—8 inch baking pan, then line it with parchment paper. Spraying it first helps the parchment paper to stick.

Melted butter in glass bowl with whisk

STEP TWO: In a medium-sized bowl, melt the butter in 15-second increments (so it doesn’t explode) until fully melted. Then add granulated sugar to the melted butter and whisk to combine.

STEP THREE: In this same bowl, add the eggs, one by one, and then the vanilla. Whisk until incorporated.

Baker’s Tip: The key to a successful Starbucks brownie is a smooth batter. When beating the eggs, sugar, and butter together, keep mixing until it goes a really pale blonde color.

Adding in sifted cocoa powder

STEP FOUR: Sift in the cocoa powder, salt, and flour and stir using a rubber spatula.

STEP FIVE: Add in 1 1/2 cups of the chocolate (chips, chunks, or chopped pieces) and fold it together with the rubber spatula.

STEP SIX: Pour into the baking dish. And then add in the remaining chocolate chunks or chips to the top and lightly press them into the mixture.

STEP SEVEN: Bake for 25-30 mins (until the edges are set, and a toothpick comes out with a few crumbs but no batter). You will notice the brownies pulling away from the sides of the pan.

Baker’s Tip – Only cut your brownies when cool. This might take about an hour. But it will allow you to slice into clean and non-messy brownies.ย

How to Store Your Brownies

Store brownies at room temperature by wrapping them tightly in plastic wrap or foil, or by placing them in an airtight container, such as a lidded tray or plastic container with a lid.

You can also freeze them for up to 6 months. Brownies freeze well in an airtight container.
