This egg carton Snowman Christmas craft is the perfect way to reuse egg cartons. Make all of them to play with or place them around the house as Christmas decorations. It’s the perfect Christmas season craft for younger children with adult supervision. It is a fun way to pass through the long winter months as well.

Fun Tip: You can even add a string to the back of them and hang them on the Christmas tree or from your windows to make festive decorations.

Please note that you will find the full instructions below as well as a printable version.

Materials Needed:

For this craft, you will need a few basic supplies and tools. If you are an avid crafter like me, you will already have most of them in your craft box, drawer, cabinet, or room.

  • paper egg cartons
  • hot glue or school glue
  • black pipe cleaner
  • red ribbon
  • white craft paint
  • googly eyes
  • black and orange paper – construction or card stock
  • pen

Optional Ideas: If you have extra pom poms from one of our other egg carton crafts. You can certainly dress up your snowman using them. Instead of using black buttons, you can use pom poms instead. Easy peasy.

Create rosy cheeks by using a pink marker or create a snowman with adorable freckles. Using a black sharpie mark make tiny dots on cheeks. Let your little one help to develop those fine motor skills.

Tools Needed

  • Scissors
  • Paintbrush
  • Glue gun
  • Paper hole punch

What kind of glue should I use?

Regular school glue will work for this project, but will just take a lengthy dry time. You can choose to use hot glue instead to shorten the process. I highly recommend school glue if the littles are working on this craft. Just make sure to let it thoroughly dry and press and hold for the glue to take.

Are egg cartons safe for crafts?

You may be surprised to hear this. I was too!! Not all egg cartons are safe to use for crafts. The eggshells may carry Salmonella and be transferred to the egg carton. The elderly and kids are more susceptible to Salmonella.

Now, you may ask, why did I make this post and craft in the first place? Inspect your carton for any obvious signs of egg leakage. You can simply spray your egg carton with a disinfecting spray before beginning to kill any salmonella on the surface. We will be painting the surface of the egg cartons. This means we will not be in contact with any locked-in bacteria once it has been painted over.

After painting though and touching your egg cartons, it would be a good idea to wash your hands really well.

Directions To Make This Egg Carton Christmas Craft

For this craft, you will need a few basic supplies and tools. If you are an avid crafter like me, you will already have most of them in your craft box, drawer, cabinet, or room.

STEP ONE: First, gather all your supplies so you have them handy in one spot. Then cut out five individual cups from your egg carton.

STEP TWO: Next, paint four egg carton cups white and one black using craft paint. Set aside until completely dry.

STEP THREE: While you wait for your paint to dry. Whole punch two circles or free hand cut two circles from black construction paper. Then cut out one very small carrot nose from the orange construction paper. And then cut out (1) 2-inch square for the bottom of the hat.

Time to assemble your cute snowman craft

STEP FOUR: Once your paint is completely dry you are ready to assemble your snowman. Using hot glue or white glue neatly stack two egg cups together. Then repeat and attach both egg carton “globes” to each other. At this point, you can do any white paint touch-up, if needed.

STEP FIVE: Then attach a 2-inch black square to the bottom of the black-painted egg cup. Attach your new top hat to the top of the snowman body. Now, create (2) arms from pipe cleaner. Arms should be no longer than an inch. But you can make up your own rules here.

STEP SIX: Attach a red ribbon around the body. Then you can complete your snowman by adding googly eyes, black buttons, and a nose. Then holding the side of the snowman attach each arm. There you have it an adorable snowman.

And if you are using it as a Christmas ornament you can add a hanging string to the back. Make has many as you need and have a bunch of little snowmen for your tree.
