Are you ever looking for something different to drink during the cold weather?  Drinking some warmth always results in comfort. Warm-up this winter. Guarantee you are going to want to try this Easy Traditional Wassail Cider Drink. This recipe just screams Christmas tradition.

Itโ€™s straightforward to make, after all, it is semi-homemade. And if the recipe is too big, itโ€™s easy to cut in half. I like to use store-bought Apple Cider for my recipe instead of making my own. It is what I call the cheater’s version.

After all, who has time for that? It is the busiest time of the year. I am all about shortcuts. Easy peasy! Not only will you have a delicious drink to share with your friends and family, but your house will smell amazing, or as my husband says โ€œlike Christmas!โ€

A little Wassail History Lesson

Wassail is a traditional drink that is served warm or spiked apple cider punch. It is served as a toast on Christmas or New Year – โ€œto your healthโ€. But besides drinking it for your health, I just like to drink it when is it cold outside.

This recipe excludes the “spiked” version. I will let you choose whether or not, you want a little something extra in your beverage. That was what I wanted to make. Not only will it warm you up and it will also make your house smell amazing, too.

Ingredients Needed

  • 8 cups Apple Cider
  • 2 cup Orange juice – I prefer no pulp
  • 4 Cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tsp Nutmeg
  • 6 Whole Cloves – or 1 teaspoon of ground cloves

Health Benefits of Wassail Beverage

Goodness, who would have thought that there would have been great benefits to drinking this Traditional Wassail Cider Drink?

But there are many. Not only does the apple cider itself have benefits, but so do all those spices. I have listed them below and a link to learn more about those benefits. I say it is time to drink more, not only for your health, but for comfort as well.

Cinnamon – Not only is this spice just warm and comforting, but it also helps control blood sugar and reduce inflammation.  A really neat trivia fact: Cinnamon is the oldest known spice to man.

Nutmeg – There are so many incredible health benefits to using Nutmeg. They include powerful antioxidants. These antioxidants help reduce tissue damage and prevent chronic diseases.

Cloves – Cloves help regulate hunger levels, regulate blood sugar & have antibacterial properties. It also can help to reduce inflammation. WOW! This little spice packs a big flavor and has many health benefits.

Try it this holiday season and see for yourself! Pretty sure it will turn into a family favorite. Keep warm on low heat over the stove (or in a slow cooker) until ready to serve. This version is non-alcoholic and kid-friendly.

Tip: If you want to simplify this recipe, try using an organic โ€œmulling spiceโ€ packet instead of individual spices. One less step to take can save you more time. And during the Christmas season, spending more time with family is a joy and a blessing.
