Having a clean and organized home can help to save you both time and money. However, sometimes clutter can sneak up on you while you are busy dealing with your day-to-day activities.

According to Theย Toy Association at any given age, the average American child hasย between 70 and 100 toysโ€”and some as many as 200. That allows can cause tremendous cluttering.

However, some of us have many items due to other reasons. If you are currently swimming in stuff, this article will help you to organize and declutter your home fast. So how can we keep household clutter from creeping in and growing out of control?

Let’s prevent clutter. Keep reading for some tips on controlling household clutter.

Free Stuff Isnโ€™t Always Free

Many times companies will give away free items as a way of advertising their services. These free items might be t-shirts, pens, tote bags, drink koozies, or hats. Just because it is free doesnโ€™t mean that you have to bring it into your home.

If you donโ€™t need it, just say โ€œno thank-you โ€œ and move on.

If you bring a bunch of โ€œfreeโ€ stuff into your house that you donโ€™t need, it is taking up valuable space that you could be using to store something that you will use.

Use It Or Lose It

Oftentimes we will have closets or garages filled to the brim with items that we donโ€™t use, are broken, no longer fit, or have simply been forgotten. This makes it difficult to find a proper place to store things that you actually do need and use.

Unless it is a seasonal item, if you havenโ€™t used it in six months to a year, then you donโ€™t need it. You will feel so much better if you remove the items that you donโ€™t use from your home, and you will have less to clean and more room for the items you do need.

Freeing up space in your home is satisfying.

Set Reasonable Limits On Things

Some people tend to collect a lot of certain items. This might be coffee mugs, make-up, shoes, purses, craft supplies, gift boxes, or anything, really.

By setting a reasonable limit on these things, you can prevent being overwhelmed with clutter. Decide what your reasonable number of these items is for you, and then find a way to store precisely that number of items and no more.

This might be a shoe rack that only holds 20 pairs or a plastic storage box that can only hold five purses. Before you can bring another item in, one item will have to be purged. This will help to Stop Household Clutter.

Only Handle Things Once

Do you have a habit of putting off tasks for โ€œlaterโ€? Most of us do, at least some of the time, and that can lead to a problem with clutter around the house.

We pull the laundry out of the dryer and set it on the couch for later or we put the mail on the table instead of dealing with it immediately and the next thing you know, we have a pile of clutter.

By handling everything just once, you make sure a task is completed, and there is no mess left for later.

Pull the laundry out of the dryer and fold it, take the mail throw out the jun,k, and file the important pieces. By handling things only once, you save yourself time and clutter later. This prevents the building up of items around your home and will Stop Household Clutter.

Donโ€™t Keep Things

Donโ€™t keep things that you donโ€™t need or want out of sentimentality or guilt. Yes, that was yourgreat-grandmotherโ€™ss teacup collection, but if you donโ€™t love it, or use them, let them go.

Oftentimes we will keep โ€œthingsโ€ to remind us of our loved ones, but we donโ€™t need things to remember them. You just need your memories.

If you donโ€™t love it or use it, get rid of it. There is someone out there who will love or use it. And I believe we would all love to see our loved ones’ items being usedrather than sitting somewhere not being displayed.

If You Donโ€™t Need It Donโ€™t Buy It – Stop Household Clutter

Just because something is on sale doesnโ€™t mean that you have to buy it. If you donโ€™t need it, then just skip it. If there is no place for it in your home or you donโ€™t have a use for it, then whatever it is will just end up cluttering your home.

Buying things that you donโ€™t need is one way that our homes end up filled with clutter. Passing by items you don’t need will keep things out of your home. No use, no space… pass-stopping household clutter.
