DIY Bug Bite Relief With Essential Oils
Itching, scratching, and irritated skin can be so frustrating, especially when you know the cause is from a bug bite.
I have been using this go-to essential oil recipe for bug bite relief for a long time. There is no need to run out to the store to buy creams, lotions, and sprays that just won’t do the trick.
When pests like mosquitoes attack, they draw a tiny amount of blood while simultaneously injecting some of their saliva into your skin. This foreign substance causes your body to release histamine as an immunity defense, which can result in itchiness. Luckily, if you find yourself up all night scratching, essential oils can help provide some relief.
Ingredients Needed
Tea Tree Oil – is a powerhouse oil that provides antibacterial, anti-pain, anti-swelling, and anti-itching properties. This versatile essential oil soothes irritation and promotes a rapid and healthy healing process.
Lavender Oil – It helps to reduce the itchiness from bug bites, soothe the skin, and is pain-relieving. It also calms the mood. Plus, it smells great.
Peppermint Oil – When applied to the skin, it neutralizes hot, irritated sensations, reducing swelling and pain. It is a natural menthol that soothes the skin and makes it feel cool.
Sweet Almond Oil – This is a carrier oil used to help dilute the essential oils so skin irritations do not occur.
How To Make This DIY Soothing Bug Bite Relief
Combine essential oils into a small bowl. Once combined, use a small funnel to add the mixture to an essential oil roller. Shake well. This is perfect for on-the-go relief anytime you need it.
Important: Patch test a small area first for any reactions or sensitivities. If there are no sensitivities, roll the blend over any bug bites to help soothe irritated or itchy skin.
How Long Does The Relief Last With This Bug Bite Relief Mixture
Itching and stinging should cease immediately. If itching doesn’t stop, try a second application. Normally, you will only need 1 or 2 applications for mosquito bites, but more may be needed for spider bites. You may not even need to reapply. Oftentimes, a one-time application may be all you need for bug bite relief. But this is different for everyone.
