Homemade DIY Nourishing After Sun Lotion Without Aloe Vera

By combining only four nourishing ingredients, you can create a homemade after-sun lotion without aloe vera that soothes and moisturizes your skin after sun exposure.

Back in April, yes, April, I visited my sister in South Carolina. We spent maybe three hours at one of the local beaches. Even after using sunscreen, I got the worst sunburn of my life.

We went back to her house, and I started pulling out pantry items I thought would help. Sure enough, the following day, I was still red, but my skin was no longer on fire, and it didn’t hurt to touch it.

I use shea butter for a lot of things, like my all-natural facial moisturizer. So, I thought it best to add this in. You don’t have to have sunburn to use this lotion. I would recommend using it anytime you have been exposed to the sun. Below you will find a breakdown of the benefits of each pantry staple used.

Ingredients needed to make All Natural After Sun Lotion

Ingredients Needed

  • African Shea Butter – Known for its moisturizing and soothing properties. It can aid in skin regeneration and collagen production, which may help with sunburn recovery. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, making it beneficial for easing the pain and discomfort of sunburn.
  • Coconut oil – Provides hydration and has natural fats that can help protect and soften sunburned skin. It’s recommended for use later in the healing process to maintain skin hydration.
  • Olive oil – You don’t need extra virgin. Olive oil is great at deep hydration; it also helps protect against environmental damage and has potential anti-aging effects due to its rich antioxidant content. It can also help soothe irritated skin and promote wound healing.
  • Lavender – Known for its soothing and anti-inflammatory properties,
  • Peppermint oil – Can provide a cooling sensation, which can offer relief from sunburn pain and heat.

How To Make This After-Sun Lotion

Adding Ingredients needed in medium sized bowl

STEP ONE: Add 2 tablespoons of raw shea butter, 2 tablespoons of coconut oil, and 3 tablespoons of olive oil into a medium-sized bowl. Mash it up and make it creamy. I like to use the back of a spoon for this part.

STEP TWO: Mash until well blended, and no lumps are seen.

STEP THREE: Lastly, add in 15 drops of lavender oil and 5 drops of peppermint oil. Blend well and transfer into a clean amber colored glass jar. Use when needed and apply liberally. Goes on oily but will get absorbed.

How To Properly Store

I mentioned placing this mixture in an amber colored jar. You don’t necessarily need a colored glass jar if you can store your moisturizer out of direct sunlight. Which is what we do. We keep it in a kitchen cabinet.

If you store this mixture in a cool, dry place for up to 6 months.
