What is Instacart & How Does It Work?
Instacart is an on-demand delivery platform that connects deliverers with customers who want groceries delivered to their homes. Instacart was founded in 2012, and is available in most major U.S. cities.
Instacart thrives on grocery delivery service that delivers in as little as an hour! They will connect you with Personal Shoppers in your area who pick up and deliver your groceries from your favorite local stores. Instacart is not a retailer or a seller of groceries or other merchandise. It is a website that connects the shopper to their favorite local store via web services.
Currently, Price Chopper and Aldi are the only grocery chain that utilizes Instacart. Many stores such as Whole Foods, Costco & Petsmart utilizes these services just not in our area.
Instacart Delivery Fees
Delivery is free for your first order. After that, it starts at $3.99 for a two-hour delivery and $5.99 for one-hour delivery when you spend $35 or more. Delivery prices for your individual order are shown at checkout.
There’s also an option to join the Instacart Express membership club, which offers free delivery on 2 hour and scheduled grocery deliveries over $35 for $99/year, after a free 2-week trial. Tips for your personal shopper optional but encouraged.
Instacart Does price All Food Listed
When you first looking at prices on the Instacart website you will notice that the prices are not the same as in-store prices. In fact, Instacart does all the pricing of food listed on their site. Some say are marked up a good 20% from what you’d pay in-store.
The company’s pricing strategy isn’t apparent anywhere on their website’s main page. It’s only when you dig into the FAQ that you get some info on it:
Yes, Instacart prices are our own and vary from the store’s price (except for alcoholic beverages, see below). If you notice an item that you believe is priced incorrectly or unfairly, please feel free to reach out. We reserve the right to cancel items that are priced incorrectly due to error.
Instacart stated on their Twitter page, “sometimes, our prices are lower or higher than the stores’ prices, sometimes they are the same.”
Is Ordering from Instacart Worth It?
As someone who is trying to save BIG money for my family, this feature from instacart is not a benefit to my family.
In my opinion, just based on the little research I have completed. I feel it is very likely that Instacart will cost me more than if I shopped in-store. This is especially true when you added in coupons in the mix. You see, instacart does not accept store or manufacturer coupons.
