Seriously BACON is the newest trend. This recipe may actually sound overwhelming to make, but it really is simple.
Maple Flavored Cupcakes With Buttercream Frosting Topped with Candied Bacon
- 1 box of Betty Crocker Butter yellow cake mix
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 3 teaspoons pure maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon maple extract
Buuter Cream Frosting
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1 stick margarine or butter
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 to 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 lb sliced bacon
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
For this recipe it is easy just fallow the box directions with a few minor adjustments; add in the cinnamon, pure maple syrup, and maple extract. Mix all ingredients together well making sure there are no lumps left in the batter with a hand or a stand mixer. If you would like the maple flavor stronger just add a bit more extract. Then scoop the batter into cupcake liners and depending how many you want and how big you want them is how high you fill them but for these scrumptious ones I like them to be big so I go at least 3/4 filled.. You will have to adjust your time just keep checking to see if the middle is done and when they are pull them out and let them cool completely before frosting.
Buttercream Cheese Frosting
In a bowl bowl combine room temp margarine or butter, vanilla extract. Alternate between adding in milk and powder sugar. . If you add to much milk just add a bit more powdered sugar to thicken it up. It’s as easy as that and you have homemade buttercream frosting.
The best part! Pre-heat your oven to 350. Make sure to have a cookie sheet line it with foil and place a wire rack on top of it. Set a side. Combine packed brown sugar and cinnamon in a large bowl. Coat bacon in mixture until completely covered. Then place on baking sheet rack. Back for 30 minutes or until dark brown. Once cooked, the bacon will still be soft at this point until it cools down. Place it on parchment paper to cool. Let stand for 5 minutes bacon should then be hard and candied.
